Sketchbook Update

I was sick this last week and off my feet for a few days, didn't get much done this week. Just another quick mouth study from the Peck book.

Dirty Girl (Paris)

This is the new poster design... It was a little rushed and I'm ultimately not that happy with it. Thought I'd post it anyway, I just think that like most work on here it still needs a little work, haha.

New Illustration (Ink & Watercolor)

This is a new piece I did this last week... I love this old nautical stuff, so I'm starting a new series. Illustrating a story of a ship lost at sea. Over all I feel okay about this piece, theirs parts I like and parts I don't.

Classical Drawing Atelier

"We all draw when we are children. Drawing the things they love empowers children and reduces their feelings of vulnerability. I believe this is also true for those of us who draw as adults. drawing is not just about expressing a visual mode or a well-articulated visual response, it is deeply connected to a natural impulse."
- Steven Assael

Sketchbook Update

Here are some recent figure & anatomy studies I've been working on... Here I was studying some anatomy illustrations by Stephen Rogers Peck & Gottfried Bammes. Also some figure drawings by Russell Iredell.

For Anyone Who Is Interested...

One of the most interesting things about drawing is watching the improvement in someone's skill level over time. However, as great as it is for those who draw to be able to see themselves learn and become more advanced, it can also be frustrating in some ways. I've been looking over my older posts and realizing how unhappy I am with some of the work. A lot of the older posts are not that great, and some of them are pretty bad or even embarrassing :/  But I guess thats all part of the process, one thing I do like is that each new piece I do is almost always at least somewhat better than the one before it. So I hope that the fact that I'm making an effort to learn and improve shows in my work! Feel free to comment if you have an opinion.

Dirty Girl

(Finished)
(Work In Progress)

Here is a new piece I did this last week... Part of a series I'm working on. Here I'm using the same technique as usual with ink pens on toned paper. I have not decided if I want to paint it with watercolor or not. I took some pictures throughout the process of rendering it with the ink.

Watercolor

This was a really quick watercolor mood painting I did just for practice. I have mixed feelings about it, but I really enjoy doing this sort of conceptual, background design stuff.

Anatomy Studies (Sketchbook)

Here are some recent anatomy studies I've done over the last two weeks. Here I'm studying from several artists, but mostly Gottfried Bammes. These were a lot of fun to do.

Sketchbook Update (Ink)

This was a pin up I did just for fun, its a little rough and sketchy... Here I was referencing some work by Gil Elvgren, as I always do when working on anything that is Pin Up related. He has always been by far my favorite pin up artist. There is simply too much to be learned from him to not reference his work.
This was just a quick anatomy study... Lately I've been really into torso studies.
Here is some concept art for a character I designed... This was some pre production work for an animation I am working on. I really enjoy doing character design and working on concept work in general.
Here is some more torso anatomy, here I was studying some work by Stephen Rogers Peck.

Facebook Zombie

This is a piece I was commissioned to do by a friend of mine. Her idea was to do a satire poking fun at peoples obsession with Facebook. This was just a quick, simple illustration but it was a lot of fun to do.

Watercolor

I got a new Moleskine Watercolor sketchbook, thought I'd start a new sketchbook for the new year. This was a quick painting I did this weekend, it still needs some work. I used to do a lot of stuff like this when I was younger, ships and planes and stuff. Lately I've been kinda getting back into it.

Hand Study (Sketchbook)

Over this last winter break I worked on some hand studies... Here I'm referencing some work by Charles Bargue. Lately I spend most of my free time working on stuff like this and listening to The Black Keys or some other equally amazing band.
